Re: DPW citywide distribution of new garbage receptacles The Municipal Council held discussions regarding the Department of Public Works distribution of new garbage cans citywide. Several wards have yet to receive any. Councilman Anibal Ramos, Jr. requested timeline and distribution list of when the remaining parts of the city will begin to receive the receptacles.

Re: 7R2-g Sixth Amendment Newark Downtown Core District Redevelopment Plan Council Member C. Lawrence Crump requested further clarification and explanation of the terminology “lot standards” used in the development plan.

Re: 7R1-c,d,e,f,g,h,m,n Rapid Rehousing Assistance and Supportive Services grantees Council President LaMonica McIver requested each sub-grantee provide a brief description of the services the provided in 2023. In addition, members of the Governing Body visited several shelters where visible code violations were evident. They have requested that all code compliance requirements are strictly enforced before payments are made.

Re: Doc-3 Office of Violence and Prevention (OVP) Council Member Michael J. Silva requested that the vendors, LP Consultants and SCORES Reentry, meet with him personally to discuss their operations and visions for the East Ward.

RE: 2024 Citywide Paving Schedule The Governing Body held discussions regarding the City’s 2024 street paving schedule. In this regard, Council President McIver requested the Engineering Department submit an updated listing of streets scheduled for paving in 2024. In addition to the city’s schedule, she also requested the paving schedules for utility companies, private contractors, State and County entities.

RE: MOTION to request the Essex County Sheriff’s Office assist the Newark PD in the crackdown of dangerous and reckless speeding on county roads surrounding county owned parks. The Governing Body heard testimony from several residents regarding excessive speeding on Lake Street. The Governing body has requested that the sheriff’s office increased their traffic enforcement in these areas especially during the summer months.

RE: 7R2-klm 2025 Business Improvement Districts Annual Budget Review Council President LaMonica McIver requested that the Administration provide the list of employees and all the necessary paperwork required before the introduction of the 2025 Annual Budget for the City’s various Business Improvement Districts.

Re: Eid al-Fitr Proposed as the 16th Municipal Holiday The Governing Body held discussions and proposed the Muslim Holiday Eid al-Fitr as an official Municipal Holiday. It is an official holiday for the Newark Board of Education. City employees are forced to use personal time for the holiday. The Governing Body is hopeful that the Administration strongly consider this proposal.

Re: Communications 8-e Ordinance amending street cleaning and an update on streets City wide in need of sweeping and cleaning Council Member Patrick O. Council requested that the Department of Public Works prepare a report listing those streets in dire need of cleaning and sweeping. Council Member Council stated there are several streets that are never cleaned due to various reasons. IN addition, he has requested that a copy of the amended ordinance is submitted to the Police Department to tow/ticket vehicles in violation.
